Acura NSX: A Mild Mannered Sportscar

The first ever NSX came into production in 1991 and was manufactured by the name of Honda NSX. It was discontinued in 2005 and after waiting for 10 years, Honda brought back the legend in 2016 under the name of its luxury subsidiary Acura.

Acura NSX: Quick Review

Acura NSX

The 2018 Acura NSX is a hybrid car that has a combination of one 3.5-liter V6 engine and three electric motors. It is the only supercar available from the house of Acura and boy-oh-boy does it look fantastic.

NSX is powerful, stylish, and a tech savvy sports car priced at $156,000 which is lower than its Italian counterparts. Let’s see how good a performer it is in the review below.

  • Strong hybrid engine
  • Well-cushioned sports seats
  • Brisk acceleration

  • Poor cargo space
  • Dated infotainment system

What’s new?

Acura NSX is unchanged since its launch in 2017.

The Acura NSX is the costliest car from the marquee and gets only single trim to choose. There’s no other engine option to opt for the NSX either. 2018 Acura NSX Price starts at $156,000 and you can spend over $50,000 on various packages available.

The engine that Acura NSX carries is a 3.6-liter V6 paired with 3 electric motors that make a total of 573 hp. Acura is also one of the most advanced supercars in the market. Its V6 engine’s extra bit of torque is used to charge the 3 batteries so that they remain fully charged and can make use of the 573 hp wholly when required.

The 9-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission is buttery smooth and its low gear ratios helps keep the engine in power-band.

The engine works in a way that the turbo-lag from the V6 gets covered by the electric motors hence, no power loss can be felt. It covers the first 60 MPH in just 3 seconds, thanks to the NSX launch control.

It is a sports car and Acura knew that the handling needed to be crisp and sharp. We’d say that they have succeeded in doing so. It is a car made for enthusiasts having a potent engine with exceptional handling prowess.

The car drives pretty stuck to the ground and can corner confidently at high speed. NSX has SH-AWD which helps counter the understeer around the corners.

It is the only hybrid supercar that can produce over 500 hp with ease and still be efficient. It has a mileage of 21 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway which is better than all its competitors.

Honda recalls over 4 Lakh Vehicles due to fuel pump problems

Honda has decided to recall 437,000 cars including the Acura MDX SUVs, Acura TLX sedans with V6 engine and Honda Accords with V6 powertrain. The automaker has addressed that the cars manufactured in the year 2014 to 2018 have been recognized with fuel tank problems.

The problem is big enough to make a car stop while on the road risking the lives of people inside the car and outside too.

Honda, the parent organization for Acura, says they haven’t found any records of an accident or any injuries due to this but are aware that if not worked upon, it can happen.

As indicated by the automaker, the existence of sodium particles in fuels can lead to the lower reach of fuel to the engine further leading to a complete halt of the vehicle. When driven in highly humid temperatures the stream of the gasoline can get reduced which can lower the acceleration and then causing the vehicle to stall.

A speaker from Honda said that this issue was first detected in the areas where the temperature rises higher than normal.

Below are the details of the cars:

Dimension and

Powerful and Rugged Toyotas

Toyota, the Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer is the second largest automotive manufacturer and the sixth largest company in the world by revenue. In the world’s market, Toyota is the leader in sales of hybrid electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. The legacy that the 1937 founded company has created is difficult to match.

Every vehicle that Toyota manufactures carries not just its brand logo but also a promise of more comfort, easier maintenance, and better overall quality.

The powerful and rugged vehicles that Toyota manufactures are proven time and again to have better capability than other rugged vehicles.

Some of the pioneer powerful and rugged vehicles from Toyota are Toyota Tundra, Toyota Hilux, and Toyota Tacoma.

Toyota Tundra:

The Toyota Tundra is one of the best powerful and rugged vehicles out there. It traces its success not just because of the Toyota brand value but because of its capability which it has got in plenty.

It is available in standard 4.6-liter and an optional 5.7-liter, both of which combine with a six-speed automatic and rear or four-wheel drive. Though the fuel economy of the Tundra is not very promising still, it’s a vehicle that you can trust.

The latest model of Tundra is highlighted by an updated paint color palette and the return of the four-wheel-drive TRD Pro off-road model. It also has new Fox internal-bypass shocks, 18-inch BBS wheels with all-terrain tires, LED head and fog lamps, a protective skid plate, a TRD Pro exhaust system, and other features.

The available variants are:

  • SR
  • SR5
  • Limited
  • Platinum
  • TRD Pro

Driving and Performance: The engines of Tundra are not up to the mark. The 4.6 liter, V-8 base engine can provide 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7 liter, V-8 optional engine is better and can provide 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque.

The towing capacity of Tundra is 10,500 pounds which is greater than what most people require for their chores. The suspension in Tundra is firm, as a result of which every bump is transmitted into the cabin. Its braking system is capable of hauling the truck down from 70 mph in around 190 feet.

Ford Focus: The Fun that Doesn’t Break the Bank

‌It’s not that hard to make a full-fledged supercar. You assemble a team of the best engineers and designers in the world, give them an unlimited production fund and viola, you have now created a speed barrier-breaking, track-focused car ready to make the billionaires of the world kneel before you.

Also, needless to say, sensibility and practicality go straight out the door. However, it’s much tougher to make a production sedan or hatch which will go toe to toe with the likes of the Civic, Corolla or the Mazda 3. That’s where the real competition lies.

‌You see, in the world of sensible production cars, everything matters. Everything from build quality to the placement of a glove box on the dash can have a significant effect on the opinion of future buyers.

So, only a true player can survive in a market as deadly as this one and that’s what Ford has been doing for almost 20 years with the Focus. Since they have a revised model out for 2018, let’s see just how good the new Focus is compared to the pioneers of the field. ‌

Driving and Performance:

‌‌The 2018 Ford Focus comes with a range of 3 engines. The smallest of the bunch is a 95 bhp 1 liter 3-cylinder Eco boost engine and the biggest being a 150 bhp 2 liter 4 cylinder engine with a 1.5 EcoBoost in the middle. The Ecoboost engines are designed with economy and city driving in mind while the four banger unit is more performance oriented.

‌When it comes to the question of fuel economy, the numbers vary depending on the trim you choose. The base S Sedan gives 25 MPG in the city and 34 on the highway while the base SE hatchback gives 26 MPG in the city and 38 on the highway.

On observation of claimed MPG figures, the most economical of the bunch is the SE sedan that gives a stellar 30 MPG in the city and 40 on the highway thanks to its 1.0 liter Ecoboost engine tweaked for maximum efficiency.

‌‌Being the benchmark of cabin quality among hatchbacks, the 2018 Ford Focus never fails to impress drivers on the interior side of things. The cabin has a fixed infotainment screen surrounded by sturdy plastics and brushed metal pieces.

The center console has a circular dial to control audio and video functions and is well within the reach of the driver without being too distracting to use. The audio is supported by Sony and the infotainment system, dubbed the ‘SYNC’, is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

‌The seats are quite comfortable even on long rides and take care of neck and thigh support of both drivers and passengers with ease. The cabin has a quick rate of cooling, thanks to a high blower speed from those vertical air vents. Overall, the fit and finish is remarkable this price range.

‌Unlike its previous iterations, the design of the 2018 Ford Focus is more expressive and sporty this time around and that’s a great thing.

The smart hexagonal grille in the front accompanies the aggressive headlights with optional bi-xenon lamps and the front bumper looks rather handsome and progressive compared to the Corolla which is infamous for its unimaginative design.

‌The rear end is simpler and has a lesser number of elements to appreciate but it looks neat and compliments the rest of the car’s subtle yet masculine design. Overall, it’s a car you wouldn’t mind being seen in and that’s brilliant considering you won’t say the same about most of its rivals.
