Facebook ropes in Uber’s former top public relations executive Rachel Whetstone as vice-president of communications. She will be responsible for handling communication strategies for FB’s multiple platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.
Prior to her appointment at FB, Rachel worked for Uber as head of public policy and communications. She stepped out following a string of corporate scandals that erupted controversies at Uber.
Rachel, while siring the news, said:
It’s a real privilege to be joining the Facebook family. Products like WhatsApp have become an important part of my life, making it so much easier to stay in touch with my own family and friends.
In her new role at Facebook, Rachel will be responsible to take up the communications for Instagram and WhatsApp. Before her stint at Uber, she spent ten long years at Google where she served as the head of communications and public policy.
Caryn Marooney, Vice President (Global Communications) Facebook has confirmed the news by saying:
“We are thrilled Rachel will be joining us, she brings unique insight and leadership to an already world-class team. We’re excited to work with and learn from Rachel as we manage some of the world’s most interesting communications opportunities.”
