Twitter, the leading micro blogging site has introduced a tool that will help users to report threatening or abusive tweets to the local authorities. Twitter already has a process for flagging abusive content and tweets and this new tool has been incorporated into it.
When user reports an abusive tweet or content to Twitter, he or she receives an email receipt comprising the details of the report including the flagged tweet and its URL along.
The receipt also has the user name and account URL of the person who posted it. Then the user can email this receipt to the local law enforcement agencies for further action to be taken.
Twitter said in its blog post:
While we take threats of violence seriously and will suspend responsible accounts when appropriate, we strongly recommend contacting your local law enforcement if you’re concerned about your physical safety.
