Laden with numerous tech features, the 2019 Subaru Impreza boasts of an impressive all-weather ability. With an impressive safety gear, decent fuel economy, and a spacious interior at its disposal, the 2019 iteration of Subaru Impreza is sure to attract oodles of buyers.
The X-factor for the Impreza comes in the form of the standard all-wheel-drive. Even with it, the ride costs similar to its competitors. Much of the ride’s interior and structure is inspired from Subaru Crosstrek. 2019 Subaru Impreza price starts from less than $20k.
The good it offers:
- Comfy, roomy interior
- Great purchase value
- Impressive 32 mpg combined fuel economy despite the standard AWD
- Robust safety scorecard
- Standard all-wheel-drive system
The bad on it:
- Interior could have been better on an aesthetical level
- No 6th gear in the manual transmission
- Sluggish acceleration
New in 2019 Subaru Impreza
- Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking are now available as optional features on the Base trim and as standard features on the Limited trim
Trims
In addition to choosing between the 4 trim levels for 2019 Subaru Impreza, namely Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited, buyers can either opt for the sedan variant or the 5-door hatchback. Each trim has the same 2.0L 4-cylinder engine paired with an all-wheel-drive system.
The Base trim has a price-tag less than $20,000, which is impressive on its own. Aside from that, the trim offers a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, air conditioning, and power features. The $850-priced optional safety package adds automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Escalating to the Premium trim adds alloy wheels and CVT to the Impreza. Notable standard features include a second USB port, acoustic windshield, and heated front seats. An advanced safety gear suite, available for $1,400, adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Impreza Sport is sportier and builds on top of the Premium trim. It gets a bigger 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen in addition to bagging 18-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and unique suspension dampers.
Top-of-the-line Limited trim features a power driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, automatic emergency braking, keyless ignition, and leather upholstery. Equipping it with available optional features will cost somewhere around $29,000.
Driving and Performance
Subaru Impreza is powered by a 2.0L flat-4 engine, capable of producing 152 horsepower along with 145 lb.-ft. of torque. The standard 5-speed manual transmission feels slightly imprecise. This can be fixed with the optional CVT, available for an extra $1,000.
At average speeds, the CVT combined with the initial acceleration feels energetic. However, that soon dies as the ride approaches greater speeds. Although the car can give an average performance on the highway, it is in no way a mountain climber.
The saving grace for the Impreza in performance is the balance between handling and ride quality. Even on the ‘Sport’ trim, the comfort is amazingly great. The standard all-wheel-drive maintains the grip while the well-weighted steering makes cornering enjoyable.
Interior and Cargo Capacity
Not only does the Subaru Impreza have a nice and spacious interior, but also a good cargo space in the hatchback make. Legroom and headroom are great in the front and slightly above average in the back. Also, the seats are covered in tough cloth.
While the sedan makes offer only 12.3 cubic feet of storage with all seats occupied, hatchback manages to offer 20.8 cubic feet under the same circumstances. The hatchback is able to accommodate an impressive 55.3 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats folded.
Safety
The small Subaru is able to bag above average ratings on crash tests conducted by both the IIHS and the NHTSA and boasts a “Superior” rating for crash-avoidance. In addition to the rearview camera and stability control, the 2019 Subaru Impreza comes with 7 airbags. Active lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking are standard on the Limited trim but optional on all other trims.
Verdict
The Impreza is a great car, and with the Subaru name attached, you get quality assurance as well. The Impreza also has a lot of rallying pedigree, which means every auto enthusiast will look at you with a sparkle in their eye. If you are the practical type though, a Toyota Corolla, or even a VW Jetta might suit you more.
